Unequivocally, Canary Island Breeding Station has achieved the ultimate in the sport of Pigeon Racing.  C.I.B.S. Canary Islands Breeding Station started as a breeding centre for racing pigeons in 2003 officially in both the Canary Islands. We aim exclusively in breeding youngsters with specific qualities for long distance racing (500-800 kms) and overnight long distance racing (800-1100 kms). Canary Islands Breeding Station (CIBS) is the next chapter in the book of Jose Ledesma whose desire to reach the summit of Pigeon Racing, began many years ago. Curiosity gave way to desire and finally acquired knowledge, in his quest to create a family of outstanding pigeons. The achievements of Jose in his specialized breeding program has resulted in special birds, those with the characteristics of extreme intelligence, refined musculature and skeletal makeup, desire, instinct and homing ability. Canary Islands have about 2000 racing pigeon fanciers. Years of Breeding Intellect. As Jose developed his long distance pigeons, his birds moved to the top of the racing charts culminating in a World Record over the sea by “Bayo Casablanca” a 2000 bird.  “Bayo” is the only pigeon to fly 1064 km (661 miles) over the sea. This foundation cock won 1st place in the Casablanca race and is now used exclusively in the newly organized CIBS. It was decided in 2003 to continue the selective breeding program founded by Jose Leedesma and that in turn has resulted in the CIBS.

The ultimate challenge, racing over the sea!

Racing pigeons is always a challenge but the ultimate test of the stamina and makeup of a true racing pigeon is the challenge of racing over open water. Pigeons that race over land can be great pigeons but pigeons that race over the open sea MUST be great pigeons! Racing in the Canary Islands and Africa north presents perhaps the most challenging races in the world. Weather is born over the seas and the predictability of weather fronts is very difficult. Winds vary continuously in intensity and direction. Heating patterns drive up humidity and dust blowing from the islands as well as Africa is observed frequently. Considering these conditions, it is obvious that the birds that are asked to race over these seas must be extraordinary.

Jose Ledesma has spent many years in developing a strain of pigeons that is physically and mentally able to handle these demanding over the sea races. And now CIBS under his direction will continue to refine and further develop the characteristics that have made these birds so great. Bayo Casablanca is a true representation of the work and achievement of Jose Ledesma. Bayo is the only pigeon that has ever flown across the sea from Casablanca in the South of Tenerife to the mainland, a distance of 1064 km (661 miles). This distance over the sea has never been achieved by any other pigeon, in any country, in any part of the world. Imagine, 661 miles over the sea! This feat was not an accident, rather the result of years of breeding for the characteristics that enable this pigeon to fly such a race. His achievement won 1^st place and a world record! He is now a Super Crack!

The development of Jose’s birds did not go un-noticed. Taiwan’s Victoria Loft visited Jose in 2000 and purchased a National Ace bird from him for 6000 Euro ($7,700.00 US). In 2002 the first 7 children of Super Crack Bayo Casablanca were shipped to Japan. The notoriety of Bayo and his offspring was spreading world wide. The demand for his offspring prompted Jose to use the “Bull” breeding system with him during 2003, resulting in 80 young bird children of Bayo mated to the finest hens in the CIBS. The resulting offspring were not offered for sale, but instead were retained and evaluated. The finest of these birds have been mated with the finest old birds at CIBS which will result in the greatest performance characteristics possible, fine feathering, strong skeletal structure, great mental capacity and homing ability.

From his early childhood, Jose Ledesma was interested in the racing pigeon, but he was not until he was 30 years old when he discovered, next to its brother Abel, the fantastic RACING PIGEONS sport, liking that he would cautivate to them completely to the present time. Already by those years, J. Ledesma surrounded by but the important fanciers of the place, collecting a fine collection of really extraordinary birds.

The successes were not made hope, and to only 6 months to begin in the sport, it obtained to his first triumph winning the "Iron Island DERBY" of It pays the South, with a metallic prize of almost 1000 Euros.

This did not do but that to take root of its love by the birds and their eagerness of overcoming. In year 1996 it gained his first championship. Besides to make As pigeon and runner-up, are able 2º National Ace of speed and middle found. That same year would gain its first truely important trophy, 3º National classified of speed and middle found, successes that would be multiplied fully in the future.

In 1999 it constructs with his own hands, a modern loft in which twice gained in only 3 years the Insular As bird of Teneriffa, as well as the best mark of Cabo Güir. Awarding its birds in 2002, from Cabo Juby (340Km), Cabo Güir (720Km), Safi(849Km) and Casablanca(1064Km) the same year. Four points of release from (Morrocco) Africa the same year. In addition in the 5 last years a bird obtains to every year Ace or As bird at Club, Insular or National level. Its hand towards the birds and their theoretical preparation was patent. Nowadays it is known practically by all the main fanciers of the country.
